Wait, what?

OK, multiple times today I have seen folks mentioning holiday parties, and not in the context of “canceled” or “declined invitation”…

Just…why?

Near 90% of the country is in substantial or high transmission mode, which last time I checked, you weren’t supposed to be doing shit indoors without a mask on.

But, sure, a party sounds like a fantastic idea.

This would be SO much easier if I just didn’t give a shit.

Hey, it’s Friday!

And not a moment too soon. It’s been a week. But work is back under control, my covid test was negative, and I’m not feeling quite so craptastic today.

Waiting for the covid test to do it’s thing was unexpectedly nerve wracking. I’d already thought I should do one some time this week as a follow up to being at the dentist last Friday but it had honestly slipped my mind – the fatigue and stomach upset brought it right back to the forefront.

AllI could think was if it’s positive, 1) What if I gave it to Lily? and 2) How would I tell my brother? (And yes, in that order – sorry little bro.) This is where living alone would be better, I wouldn’t have to worry about accidentally passing it on to another person in my own damn house if I caught it.

I did come to the conclusion that the fatigue was a combo of everything in the world plus not even getting 6 hours of sleep a night all week long, and my stomach was likely the fact that my sinuses had been draining since I woke up.

Gonna do the follow up tomorrow – put it on my calendar so I will not forget – and while I’m confident it will be negative…I also am not particularly looking forward to it. The test itself is easy, the waiting SUCKS.

I know I am not along in this – but JFC, we did NOT need Omicron.

But hey, it’s Friday and we made it.

Downhill side of the week.

And it’s a good thing, since yesterday was such a bad brain day – I think because I was really tired and everything was just incredibly stupid.

Crap like me being very gung ho on vaccines while still not feeling like it will work when the time comes so I’m stuck in a “might as well not be vaccinated” holding pattern. So I look and feel like a fucking weirdo. Pfizer saying the booster works against Omicron but they’re also working on an Omicron specific shot – not helping. Super stoked about staying home until May.

The fun little discord server for folks who are cleaning impaired like me went sideways.  Mod got super weird about some truly benign stuff and basically scared everyone off. It was a nice little group with the right amount of activity, so I’m bummed about that. Someone pointed me to a similar server, but it’s got a fuckton of channels, and too much activity for me to keep up with.

Maybe I’ll just start my own discord server and talk to myself, LOL.

And on top of it all, I’m not feeling terribly Christmasy. Right now it just feels like a lot of work that I don’t have enough time to get done and there are already delivery delays. Maybe this is another good year to enlist Swiss Bakery for the baking…

But today is a new day and all that happy horseshit, LOL.

ETA: OH hello random nausea, that’s EXACTLY what I needed this morning. 🤢

ETA2: Since I’ve been dead tired for 2 days with an upset stomach this morning, and spent unmasked time at the dentist on Friday, did a Covid test – negative, YAY! I will retest in 2 days to be sure. But I guess I’m just tired from *waves hands maniacally* all this, Andy coffee just isn’t sitting right this morning.

How does the cat KNOW?

It’s supposed to be an early Wednesday, but the morning meetings were canceled cause there is a holiday on the other side of the world. However, at 6AM this morning, a certain little kitty cat loudly informed me THAT MY ALARM HADN’T GONE OFF YET!!! Sadly, trying to go back to sleep didn’t work terribly well.

BBC is showing Prime Minister’s Questions and gawd, I love watching Parliament just yell at Boris Johnson. It’s fantastic. Folks are pretty pissed about this party/gathering/whatever it was last year at Christmas while everyone else was stuck at home.

Speaking of stuck at home, the county is officially back in high transmission status. Sigh. BBC just said that Pfizer is working on an Omicron-specific shot, but that won’t be around until at least March.

So, despite being vaccinated/boosted, I feel like I’m right back where I was this time last year. Got an invite to a small thing, and I was, “Yeah, I’d love to, but, no.” And it sucks, because I look and feel like a freak – but I also know if I decided to go, I’d be miserable all evening, and probably have a panic attack.

I know the vaccines prevent serious illness, but I feel like I’m still totally on my own as far as preventing transmission in the first place. If our cases were low/moderate, sure – but they’re not, and I just don’t know where everyone else has been.

The rate of breakthrough infections as part of all infections is 8.7% currently. That should make me feel better, but it doesn’t, especially now that Omicron is in the mix. Bleah.

21 months of this. 2 months where were in low/moderate after I got vaccinated. 90% of the past 21 months where I have been fucking stuck at home watching half the country just do whatever the fuck they want.

Hang in there.

1 down 4 to go…

Yeah, it’s a countdown to the weekend week already, LOL. It’s definitely gonna be a…challenging week, let’s put it that way.

Last night I tried really hard to destroy the dryer, but did not succeed. Let’s just say it’s important to check your pockets for hair clips. Though honestly, the dryer is 16 years old *at a minimum* so if I had destroyed it, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. New dryer is now on the radar – may be a birthday gift to myself, LOL.

Work has said that vaccination is mandatory, cause we’re technically federal subcontractors – fine by me. One of my coworkers asked yesterday about what shots I’d gotten and how it went. She seemed hesitant to ask, but OMG, LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!! I’m just glad she’s getting vaccinated – she said she gets a flu shot every year, but was just nervous about the Covid shot. Haven’t heard anything out of my other coworker who told me earlier in the year she was passing on it. I am sure she’s not happy.

I know folks hate being told what to do, but I just want folks to get vaccinated so they don’t end up in the hospital or worse, and so we can all safely do things again. Yeah, there is some selfish reasoning in there, but I ALSO CARE ABOUT Y’ALL AND DON’T WANT YOU TO BE DEAD.

Please, book your shots. I promise you, a day or so of potentially feeling like crap is better than the alternative.

Well, it’s Monday again

And that is kinda bullshit. Not only do I have an 8AM meeting today, I HAVE A DAMN FULL WORKWEEK. At least next week has a half-day Friday and the week after, I’m on PTO for the week.

And in domestic nonsense, I have gotten the house to the point where I can get the plumbers in, yay! Gonna get a new valve for the water intake on the toilet, a new handle & valve in the shower, and as long as they’re here, a couple new sink faucets. The sink faucets are mostly cosmetic (and frankly, a bit lipstick on a pig given the age of the bathrooms) but they’re nearing end of life, and might as well get it all done in one go.

I hate having to bring them in with cases back on the rise, but this shit has got to be done, and I don’t have the skills to do it on my own.

Speaking of stupid pandemics – why the fuck were we not requiring negative tests within 24 hours for everyone for any airline travel? That would have done us far more good than travel bans.

Of course, I say all this as a resident of a state that will do fucking nothing and everyone is on their own. Northam checked out on the pandemic as soon as vaccines were available, and I know damn good and well Youngkin won’t do shit. Gotta love money over safety!

Well, time to go get more coffee and go to this meeting – you have a great Monday! Or a tolerable one at least, LOL.

So, not my imagination

Popped into the market this morning and grabbed some ornament hooks and was joking with one of the gals that works there about how I have to buy them every year – she said she was surprised I could even find them. We talked for a few minutes and yes, holiday stuff is already quite picked over even the first week of December.

We couldn’t decide if it was less stock on hand, people going overboard for Christmas, or a combination of both…

I know at least locally from my drive to pick up dinner last night that folks are going a bit happy batshit with the outside decorations – we’re in that group, too – last year we couldn’t find outside twinkle lights at all (and the ones we had were starting to fail, cause, time) and this year I found them and let’s just say I can’t translate “66 feet per string to bushes covered” – and well, we have A LOT OF PRETTY WHITE AND MULTICOLOR TWINKLE LIGHTS OUT THERE.

What can I say, I love twinkle lights, and frankly, I’d leave them up and turned on year round if people wouldn’t bitch about it. (We don’t have a HOA, but we do have Nextdoor and it does have it’s share of “I just don’t understand why people don’t have pride in their yards…” asshats, and I’m not bringing that on myself.)

But at least I wasn’t imagining things.

It’s only December 4th, right?

4 shops and wow, holiday stuff is already rather picked over. I did find a cute red knit star tree topper, but I will say it looked far smaller in the shop compared to all the huge lightup ones they had… It looks a wee bit ridiculous on the tree, but it’s cute and does the job. (And guarantees the little glass topper will appear in the next 24 hours.)

Top of Christmas Tree with red knit star on top.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

Despite Covid and all the other various and sundry bullshit, the sun is shining and I have a very large cold brew, so it’s good enough.

Yesterday’s dental appointment went shockingly well – the tooth he worked on this summer is actually properly healing. I was kinda shocked, but happy – I’ve been doing brush/floss/rinse as I’ve always done (and still have the mouth of a medieval peasant) – but I’ve also added CBD oil into the mix before bed, mostly for anxiety/sleep, but it has antibacterial & anti-inflammatory properties and while I’m not saying this is what made the difference – it obviously hasn’t hurt at all. (I did not mention this to the dentist as I can tell he already thinks I’m a bit of a whackjob for the acupuncture sessions to undo the tension in my jaw.)

Today’s very exciting plans are seeing if I can’t find a small tree topper (the one that went MIA was from CVS ages ago, hopefully they or Hallmark can come through) put in the orders for the Christmas Sees Candy (YAY!) and housework.

The little sparkly lantern I got is a hit – my brother finds it very mesmerizing, LOL and he sent a video of it to a friend who was all, “WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?!” Doing my part to keep our little Hallmark store in business.

In “healthy coping methods” – I got an advent wine box! It’s 24 itty bitty bottles of wine, just over 6oz each and I’m only 3 days in and having WAY too much fun with it. Sampler boxes of tiny bottles of wine should be a year-round thing.

And now, I have to go out and be around *shudder* people. Night 4 of the wine box will be needed, LOL.

Have a lovely day!

Well, it’s another Friday

And yet again – you made it! Well done, since the universe had added an additional difficulty level with Omicron.

Half day today, but the second half is going to the dentist, so… I’d rather work, TBH. In theory, it’s just replacing a temp crown with a permanent one, but I am certain he’ll find something else expensive and wrong – but, it’s all good, I’m finding a new in-network dentist for the new year.

I like my dentist, but he’s too damn expensive – my prior insurance paid fairly decently for out of network, but what I have through work is terrible for out of network services and my dude has definitely shifted to catering to rich folks over the years, and I am not a human ATM machine. (Gawd, health care is utterly fucked in the US – I can’t even fathom why dental work isn’t part of regular medical insurance other than someone is making a lot of $$$ keeping things the way they are.)

Welp, time to go speedrun through some bugs and steel myself for a bigassed future dental bill, LOL.

You have a great day!
