I am on FIRE this morning!

I’ve already made the coffee run, hit the grocery store for the stuff I forgot yesterday, picked up my new glasses, and the laundry is going!

Sadly, the Padres lost last night – so all the gear is in the wash to get the losing game cooties off. They didn’t play badly, and it at least wasn’t a blowout – the Phillies are just damn good. (Which is why they are in the playoffs!) Little worried about Soto, sometimes it seems like he has a case of the yips, which ain’t great. But – the team is more than any one player, and we’ve shown that this year.

Eye appointment went well. Retinas look fantastic, my vision in my right eye is unchanged since 2019, and my left eye is actually a touch better! And I managed to at least pick regular frames they had in stock, so I was able to have those today. I didn’t hate my old frames at all, but I really like these – little narrower left to right and wider top to bottom, and tortoiseshell! And not the most expensive ones on the shelf!

And I can’t help but keep putting them on this morning and looking around going, “Yes, very nice and sharp!” Really looking forward to the new sunglasses, cause my old ones are scratched all to hell at this point, so seeing clearly while doing little things like, IDK, driving will be good.

Mind you, new, clear, clean glasses do not improve being scatterbrained – I stood up for some reason and then completely forgot that I was in the middle of writing this and went off to do housework, LOL. But hey, all the housework is done for today, too!

You have a great Saturday.

Wait mode half conquered!

Got my ass up to the grocery store! We have everything we need for chili tomorrow night!

And of course, some dumbass hadn’t had anything to eat before leaving the house and her blood sugar bottomed out about 2 minutes after she entered the market, so the trip was spent powering through the desire to sit down, cry, and throw up all at the same time. (It me. I am the dumbass.)

So, I’m now sitting down and having a snack, and as soon as I’m feeling a little less…whatever this is, I get to hit the shower. Because of course, I am all sweaty and a bit gross. (Not helping was the fact that the grocery store was very cold and I swear my body was trying to make up for it on top of everything else.)

While I go to the grocery store all the time these days, I am still not 100% comfortable with it (yes, the pandemic has done a number on me) – I still occasionally have to take a few minutes in the car to fully collect myself after the shopping is done, so this made today extra fun. Even though I *knew* the reason I was feeling off was because I hadn’t eaten, it still feels like I’m careening towards a panic attack, which suuuuuuucks.

But, I got through it. Reminded myself repeatedly even though it felt a bit panic attack-y, it was a lack of food. Mind you, the second I cleared the doors and was outside it was MASK OFF, DEEP BREATHS! And I took a couple minutes in the car to just chill.

What it all really comes down to is that brains and bodies are crap and whoever did the QC for them did a terrible job.

But, some cheese and crackers and a bit of chocolate has righted the ship for the moment.

If you haven’t eaten yet today, don’t be like me – go get a snack!

It’s a remote start morning!

38º out there this morning, brrrr! And that was at 9AM. Seems early in the season for it, but IDK, time is broken.

I’m a bit worried about my Padres this evening playing in Philly – I hope they remembered their long sleeved shirts – going from 90º to the mid-50s is a bit of a shock to the system. But they’re tough!

I still am happily shocked at their last game. Snell had a terrible second inning, and our defense was awful there for a while, and our bats were ice cold. And then in bottom of the 5th, they all finally showed up to play, and boy howdy, did they do it. Nothing like going from down by 4 runs to turning it around and winning 8-5. Damn heart attack kids.

Not helping all this is that the Phillies…well, they’re kinda good, LOL. If y’all could have a big ol’ end of season collapse, that would be great.

No matter how this series ends though, this has been an AWESOME season, and we’ve showed everyone we’re not a one or two man team here.

I have today off work, and I’m gonna get a very overdue eye check this afternoon – last time I saw them was 2019. Well, in 2020 it didn’t seem like a good idea to be in a small room with other people, and then…time just got away from me. I need to remember to get a copy of whatever my new prescription is so I can look into some cheap backups from Zenni or somewhere.

Of course, my appointment is at 3PM. It is 10:30 now. Guess who’s brain has already gone into “Wait Mode”?? Rationally, I know 4 1/2 hours is more than enough time to do the grocery shopping and get all the dailies knocked off my to do list. But that “wait mode” part of my brain is going, “You’re gonna end up being all rushed by the time your appointment comes around!!”

I have at least gotten my Covid test done – negative, yay, and ordered more test kits AND uploaded the receipt to my insurance!

And now I am gonna put on my shoes, tell Wait Mode to STFU, and get the marketing done.

You have a fantastic Friday!!

How is it Monday already??

I’m very bleary eyed this morning despite getting to bed at a reasonable hour. My subconscious is apparently worried about the designated hitter rule in the postseason. (Why, I don’t know, because all leagues have a DH now.)

But, I’ve got a short week, get paid, and we’ve got some more Padres baseball, and they’re not all 9PM starts! If we can win by Sunday night, I’m only looking at one night game with work the next morning. Go Padres so I can get sleep!!

The rest of the world is an utter shitshow, so honestly, having this bright spot of my team doing well – it’s really nice.

And they helped me forget work so completely, I have no idea what I’m working on today, LOL.

Time to go figure out what my job is. You have a great day!

So, that happened!

THE PADRES BEAT THE DODGERS TO WIN THE NLDS AND MOVE TO THE NLCS!!

IN. THE. RAIN.

Seriously, it was wild. We were down 3-0, which isn’t insurmountable, but I will admit I was thinking, “Well, at least we have another game tomorrow.” And then in the bottom of the 7th, everything went happily batshit insane and we scored FIVE runs. And then Robert Suarez and Josh Hader did excellent work in keeping LA from scoring again and HOLY SHIT WE DID IT, WE BEAT THE DODGERS!!

Padres Twitter happily lost its mind, and we got lots of shots of a shirtless Manny Machado, which was just icing on the cake.

And the thing is, this wasn’t a fluke. We didn’t just get lucky in a single play in game – 5 game series and we won 3 of 4. Our pitching and bullpen has been fantastic and while our bats weren’t super hot – things have just really come together well for the Padres at the right time.

Dodgers fans on Twitter are understandably not happy. Yesterday, there was an LA Times columnist who wrote a very “woe is me, oh the pain and disappointment of loss” column. Hi Padres fan here! Yes, losing sucks! Trust me, we know!! The pain is not unique to being a Dodgers fan!

And a lot of “LA has collapsed in 9 of 10 years” – um, I looked. 10 seasons. 10 postseasons. Three trips to the World Series, and one World Series win. No one is gonna win the WS 10 years in a row – hell, I think just getting that far 3 seasons out of 10 is pretty good. But, IDK, we’ve only been in the postseason 7 times since 1984…

And I won’t lie, I’m glad they won in 4 games and we all have tonight off – these west coast night games are a killer – regular season, I will give in and go to bed when the games run really late, but I just can’t do that right now!

Next is the Phillies, and I’m hoping maybe they’ll shoot for a happy medium on scheduling – 4PM games in San Diego and 7PM games in Philly maybe?? Then we can all be in bed before midnight, LOL.

A good buddy of mine is a huge Phillies fan, so the series is gonna be a little awkward, but, I’ll power through it.

You have yourself a great Sunday, and oh, go Guardians!!

Gooooood morning!!

Guess what?!? THE PADRES WON AGAIN LAST NIGHT!!

Snell’s pitch count still worries the hell out of me, but he was solid and our bullpen was on point. Our bats were kinda cold, but we got 2 runs and that’s all we needed. My lord, these games are exciting and stressful! Cause, I hate to say it, the Dodgers are kinda good. And I am so happy our guys are really stepping up and making the D’s WORK.

I don’t remember the 2020 playoffs being this stressful, but 2020 was all weird and broken, so…

And my postseason t-shirt arrived while the Padres were still in it all!!

T-shirt with a baseball diamond and the San Diego logo that says Postseason 2022
It’s a lucky shirt now!

Good times, y’all, good times.

Have yourself a fantastic Saturday, and I hope your team wins, too. (Unless it’s the Dodgers, and well, you understand.)

IT’S FRIDAY!!!!!!

WOOHOO, YOU MADE IT! Padres beat the Dodgers on Wednesday and hoo boy was that stressful and exhausting! And they play again tonight AT HOME!!!! Petco Park is gonna be NUTS.

So, work fun and games, we’re doing a feature where it’s basically just a bunch of label changes when it comes down to it – no new screens/apps, just literally some on screen changes to existing apps. And when we test new features, we do a demo to show it’s working and the changes. On these, product management has said quick screenshots will be fine – old screen/new screen screenshot, circle the changes. Which is great, cause it makes things easier and WAY faster.

But last night, I get third hand from my folks on the other side of the world that the product manager wants a full video demo for one screen I tested. Huh? A full demo video to say, “this label changed”? It makes zero sense, I said so, and I said that I would talk directly to the PM today because it just makes no sense whatsoever. The PM saw the screenshots I had posted in Teams and didn’t say anything about it – and she KNOWS she can come directly to me and ask for more details if she needs them.

And I think I insulted them by not just going along with it, LOL.

And in other Friday fun, I get to spend the first ~2 1/2 hours of my day today doing support’s job… This case, OMG, the analyst should have been able to handle it or escalate it to a senior support person, but somehow they got someone to sign off on sending it to dev/QC/me.

I haven’t done anything fancy – just dug through the data, and it’s calculating correctly – based on bad historical data the client got into the system. (Garbage in, garbage out!) Tell client to fix bad data. They did, say it’s still not calculating correctly, so this morning I will be going through the newest data and $1 says it is calculating correctly. All of this could have – and should have – been handled by support, but instead I’m spending hours on it. Hmph.

But, hopefully this morning I can get that off my plate, find out what the PM actually wants, get off work on time, AND WATCH THE PADRES!!!!

You have a fantastic Friday and GO PADRES!!!!!!

OMG, PADRES!!

WE GET TO PLAY SOME MORE BASEBALL!!!

Great game, they did what they do very well – small ball. Just keep getting folks on base repeatedly and eventually, they’ll come around home.

And Joe Musgrove pitched a fantastic game – and if Buck Showalter thought that accusing him of using stuff for his spin rate having the umps come out and fondle his ears would rattle him – well that sure fucking backfired, cause he was even more laser focused after that very petty move.

It’s a playoff game, he’s amped up, he’s throwing harder, which increases spin rate. Didn’t have to cheat – he was just very good at his job when it counted.

The Mets were a good team and played well. The Padres simply played better.

And we’re off to the NLDS where we’ll finally get a home game!

Now I gotta get this coffee to kick in and go work – you have a great day.

AND GO PADRES!

Good grief

Some days I swear the MLB just hates the fans.

Last night they said in the broadcast that today’s game – originally scheduled for 7PM – would be 4PM. Cool, especially since last nights game went well over 4 hours.

I absolutely bulldoze through my brain being in “wait mode” for this game, get the critical stuff done around the house, 4PM rolls around, I turn on ESPN – college soccer. I’m sorry, what?

Oh, the game is at 7PM now. I searched Twitter for any actual announcement of “Oh, that game that was at 7, then 4, it’s now 7 again. Not a damn thing, but I did find one person who got to Citi Field for the not-4PM-anymore game…

I get that because we’re the only wildcard game left, they want it in prime time – that’s fine. But maybe make a point of telling people that the time actually changed??

* Please someone tell me how throttling defense by banning the shift will speed up pace of play next season.

One more game…

My beloved Padres had a bullpen collapse last night and we lost to the Mets, so this afternoon is win or go home. Snell had a bit of a rough outing – really high pitch count, but when he was done, we were only down by 1 – and then it all went to hell.

Meanwhile my celebratory postseason t-shirt I ordered a week ago is not scheduled to arrive for another 9 days. MLB, tell me you don’t give a shit about out of market fans without telling me you don’t give a shit about out of market fans. If I could order directly from the Petco Park team store, I would certainly have done that instead.

The Festival of Donald is winding down and I’d say it was a resounding success. The porkchops I made Friday night were *perfect* and delicious, the goodies from the Swiss Bakery are excellent, and we went to the Renaissance Fair yesterday with a couple of friends and that was a very good time. I’d never been before – I see why people like it! I threw some axes (I’m terrible at it) and had some great crab dip and a smoked turkey leg, which was awesome. And there were so many amazing costumes. I did manage to resist buying a hat, but I did get a gorgeous purple silk scarf/wrap/whatever. I’ve also kept the program with all the vendor lists, because holy Christmas ideas Batman.

And after some mental math and risk assessment, we all popped into the bar for a couple beers – saw several folks I haven’t seen in a while, which was nice. But the amount of “what have you been up to?” – um, still playing avoid Covid – whew, yikes. It’s a bit disheartening that Covid is somehow just totally over for so many people. I mean, it must be really nice to just do whatever and not take it into consideration at all, but damn, I do feel really alone sometimes being the weirdo that still acknowledges Covid on a daily basis and centers it in my decision making.

In super mundane shit, I messed up with the tire pressure a couple weeks ago and this morning was getting the DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! message again – we got down into the 30s last night and the PSI dropped again. Realized that last time I topped them all off, I did 32/33 PSI because even though it said “go to 35” I was thinking, well, if the tires are cold, the PSI will go up as I drive and then they’ll be overinflated and explode-y – not thinking at all about the fact that the PSI they tell you to hit is the sweet spot regardless of if the tires are hot or cold when you fill it… So, I came home from the coffee shop, got ALL THE QUARTERS because of course, air is not free, and they’re all now at a happy 35 PSI and I shouldn’t have to deal with this again for a long time.

Protip for anyone buying a car, new or used – have the dealership remove all the caps from the valve stems and put them back on hand-tightened. Much easier to get them off later if you’re not dealing with them being factory tightened. (Three of the four came off with no issues, the 4th took some serious wrestling.)

But look at that beautiful symmetry!!

Nailed it!

I am still knackered from all the walking yesterday so today is gonna be restful right up until 4 when the Padres play. You have a great Sunday.
