I have Advil Cold & Sinus!!

Weird thing to announce, I know, but supply chains being what they are and people attempting to treat Covid with OTC cold and flu meds – finding any was a damn accomplishment. It finally occurred to me to check Amazon and I now have a box of 50 tablets. Each individually wrapped, LMAO. But it’s the only damn decongestant I can tolerate, OTC or otherwise, AND NOW I HAVE SOME, AND NOT BECAUSE I AM TRYING TO SELF TREAT COVID!

A dispenser box of individually wrapped Advil Cold & Sinus tablets.
It’s like I live in a gas station!

And in other weird supply things, there appears to have been a run on frozen potatoes at my market. Felt like a conquering hero managing to snag the very last bag of tater tots today. Not sure if the market just didn’t get their regular shipment or if there is some potato based holiday in the immediate future that I am unaware of. If there is a potato based holiday around the corner, WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED?

It’s really strange that we’re still having supply chain problems crop up given that I have repeatedly been told that Covid has ended.

It’s gonna be a day…

I am running on very little sleep, because my brain decided it would be great to have a party when I went to bed. Once I fell asleep, I was good, but getting there…damn.

Even Lily knew I was struggling and came in and flung herself across my legs in an attempt to help. She’s a very good kitty.

Perhaps it’s time to start doing that before bed yoga routine on my app…

But, I have a metric fuckton of cold brew available to me, I can take a nap at lunch if needed, and nothing critical is due in the immediate future so I can go nice and slow today.

You have a great day and I hope you’re not taping your eyelids open with scotch tape.

Oh FFS

Teladoc is such a fantastic concept and so damn hit or miss in reality. Went to the market to pick up this mystery prescription to discover I’d been prescribed an OTC drug, which I had already told the doctor the market did NOT have in stock, but I guess they thought the pharmacy could conjure up a box out of nowhere. And a $105 steroid spray that I cannot take. (I remembered to ask what was in the spray before paying, thank god.)

Ugh.

What a depressing day

Starts with a shooting, there is no sun, and my motivation is net negative today.

I did finally make the damn Teladoc appointment I was going to make three days ago and the long and short of it is if you can’t tolerate prescription decongestants and steroid sprays, and the OTC meds you *can* tolerate are out of stock everywhere – you’re just fucked. (I swear, I could hear the practitioners brain short circuit when I said “I’m sorry, I can’t tolerate prescription decongestants.”) Though they apparently called something in anyway 4 hours ago per the email, but I’ve gotten no notification from the pharmacy, so IDK.

And I somehow bashed/twisted/strained my finger on something earlier today and I have no idea what or how, but OW?

And I’m feeling super stressed today for reasons I just can’t nail down. Not anxious, just…stressed?

But I’ve knocked out the to-do list for the day, done the crossword (40 minutes, but I needed 3 hints) and done some yoga, so that’s something.

I hate this country

Another day, another mass shooting. This time at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California in the midst of Lunar New Year celebrations. Today’s festival has been canceled.

We don’t know the motive, and the suspect is still at large, but I know enough about this country to know this: nothing will change.

We’ll get thoughts and prayers and some appropriate rhetoric, but absolutely nothing will change.

The folks that could do something won’t, because the right thinks it’s just fine if not great, and the left lacks the political will.

It’s a fucking travesty.

Where is my sun??!??

I do understand how weather works and not every day is gonna be bright and sunshiny, but my lord it is SO grey and depressing out there today. Just makes you want to go back to bed, and I so very much want to go back to bed.

On the work front, yesterday I guaranteed my job for another day by giving my developer more work to do for me to check on Monday, LOL.

This week we had our annual kick off “go team go” meetings – by all accounts, 2022 went well for us, but the true proof on that will be in the bonus numbers – and you’d think the kick off meeting would be a great time to announce that, but noooooo, they don’t announce that until usually the first or second week of February. I WANNA KNOW NOW.

And despite these meetings and the general upbeat attitude in them – watching all these big tech sector layoffs has me very nervous. I mean, my company is tech, but not like Google or Facebook tech, but still… Last fall when we had our department meetings, I flat out asked that given that the Fed is determined to throw us into a global recession, were we going to be looking at layoffs and they said no, but yeah, can’t help but be nervous.

So, that has me ruminating a lot on how to best be ready for everything to go sideways, which is fun!

But, it is what it is, and whatever happens, I’ll muck through somehow.

You have a lovely day.

IT’S FRIDAY!!!

You did it!!!! Awesome job! I legit had to double check that it was really Friday this morning cause my days have been all effed up all week.

Today’s excitement is testing a Very Important App that has been super fucking twitchy all damn week and I’ve had to send it back to dev multiple times already and I’m worried I’m gonna miss something. The worst bit is it’s an app that’s been fine *forever* and we made a change because one client “didn’t like it” and it’s been a cascading shitshow ever since.

But hey, job security I guess!

You have a great Friday and don’t change shit that isn’t actually broken!

Well, best of luck Jacinda Ardern!

Totally bummed for New Zealand, but Jacinda Ardern is totally the type of leader who knows what the job requires and when she doesn’t have it anymore and won’t hang on until she collapses just for the sake of power. I hope whatever is next for her is great. (And I just saw a snip from her press conference and she looks tired as hell – I don’t blame her one bit.)

The world needs so many more leaders like her. Kindness, empathy, and compassion should be what we look for in all our leaders.

In completely unrelated FUN things, I have a raging sinus infection. Kept thinking “oh it’s the weather changing constantly” but no, it is not. And it’s not Covid either, yay! And it’s been 4 years since the last one, so yeah, it’s due, LOL. So, we’ll be getting in touch with Teladoc later today, cause the last thing I need is this moving into my ears or teeth. The question is – will I get an NP who understands that a 50 year old woman knows when she has a sinus infection?

Well, time to go make the money to pay the Teladoc – you have a great day hopefully not involving medical professionals, LOL.

Gonna brag on myself for a bit.

Cause I’m really fucking proud of myself.

My very loose goals for the year were basically “be more of a functioning adult” – and we a bit over two weeks in, and things are going really well.

Every day, I’ve gotten all the daily critical stuff around the knocked off my to-do list, and made some inroads on the rest of the disaster. (Is doomboxing ideal? No. Is it better than doing nothing? Absolutely.)

Every day, I’ve gotten some exercise, either walking or yoga.

I’ve made a point of having non-phone entertainment every day. Been doing the crossword every day and working on the lego set I got for Christmas. (Sunday Time crossword in 36 minutes yesterday!)

I know it’s only the 16th and it could all fall apart, but I’m feeling really good about it all right now. Of course, I did have an anxiety spike out of nowhere this evening, so not everything is perfect, but it is pretty damn good.

In more mundane matters

Got coffee, got the errands run, got my comfy pants on and I’m ready to take on the day. After a bit more coffee, LOL.

In weird things to be excited about, we have eggs! The avian flu has been hitting supplies pretty bad and I’d been prepared to go all over town today, but my local market came through. A few bare spots in the egg section, but plenty there, and we have a dozen extra large organic brown eggs. I don’t know when I became an organic brown egg lady, but it happened.

Don’t have a terrible to-do list today, and I have my headphones charged up and right next to me, but I seem to be having a very real problem prying myself off the damn couch… And I know if I just get going, it won’t even take an hour to get it all done and then I can just chill the rest of the day.

But damn, task initiation is a bitch and a half.

OK, deep breath, time to get the headphones on and turn on the music and get shit done.

You have a great day!

ETA: It took 45 minutes to get it all done, including 20 minutes of doomboxing in my bedroom.
