This is a fired checkerboard glass plate. It has 6 rows of 6 pieces of clear glass that are 3 by 3 centimeters, with a 1 centimeter gap in between them. On top of those squares are red glass squares, which are also 3 by 3 centimeters. They are placed so that they are covering the corners of the clear glass pieces. At each corner on the piece as a whole is a small 1 by 1 centimeter red square. It was “tack fused” which is a lower temperature fuse, and keeps a lot of the from and texture of the squares. Each red square looks a bit like a 4 petal flower - where the red corners overlapped the clear squares, they are raised up and the bits that were not overlapping the clear are sunken down a bit. After the tack fuse, there was a slump fuse where it was placed in a mold and fired again at a low temperature, and now it is gently raised on the edges.
